The I-X Book
10 years Form Us With Love

AMBITION

Accompanying the studios ten years anniversary, Form Us With Love presents their first longer format publication titled I—X, a generously sized monograph, filled with design process, insights and reflective thinking.

‘We not only asked ourselves about our path but also the people that we have been working with. Days of conversation turned out to be priceless information for us. We decided to place these conversations in this book so others might learn from it,’ Form Us With Love states in the book’s opening paragraph.

The book is a chronological compilation, edited by Lia Forslund and designed by Henrik Nygren Design. A thousand pages, physically manifesting Form Us With Loves’ journey, from young students in the deep forests of Sweden to established designers, travelling the world. Being built on dialogue, the book enables a more cultural approach to design, there to tell the day-to-day of sustaining collaborations and designing real change.

‘The work of Form Us With Love is built on close relationships, something we wanted to include as part of the narrative. The emphasis was therefore to keep things personal, telling an in-formal story by weaving real voices,’ says editor, Lia Forslund.

The I—X book is set in a decade when design went from maximalism and spending to thoughtfulness and critical decisions. Insights into that incremental change is shared by over twenty voices, including Jesper Brodin and Åsa Hederberg, Ikea, Anders Färdig, Design House Stockholm, Kristian Byrge, Muuto and Annica Eklund, Bolon to name a few.

‘What we found is that the design reader wants content before news—a combination of knowledge and exploration—something more substantial than just another product,’says Jonas Pettersson, CEO and co-founder of Form Us With Love.

The publications could be seen as a series of tools, stepping behind the curtain into the realm of the design decisions. As a format, the book enhances Form Us With Love’s collaborative process, highlighting elements of reflection, prototyping and production.

‘In a way, the book is a natural progression of us documenting our work, it’s a tactile tool which ties everything together but more so, it started to make sense to share our dialogue,’ says John Löfgren, Creative Director and co-founder of Form Us With Love.

The studio is renowned for making well-made catalogues and journals, however, the I—X book is a progressive format, delivering on that intimacy and evolvement that a longer publications has the possibility to create.

‘We see I—X as a platform, a tool to expand on and a format for the future. Looking back at what Form Us With Love’s had done, brought a beautiful gain to what’s to come. There is something very considered about every project and I believe further sharing that knowledge with a wider audience is only going to take the studio from strength to strength,’ designer of the book, Henrik Nygren concludes.
